On July 13, 2016 IRCC amended the study permit policy regarding conditional acceptance.
Now, any person applying for post-secondary studies based on the successful completion of an ESL or FSL program in Canada will only receive a study permit duration for the length of the language program (ex. 4-8 months), not the full post-secondary diploma or degree (ex. 2-4 years). They then must re-apply for a new study permit from within Canada upon completion of their language studies and cannot work until the second study permit is issued and they begin their diploma or degree studies.
